Philodendron peltatum is a terrestrial philodendron species known for its large, puckered, heart-shaped leaves with a quilted texture and thick, cream-colored or silvery veins. It grows relatively low to the ground and is valued for its bold, tropical aesthetic, which makes it popular with plant collectors. The plant is native to Central and South America and prefers bright, indirect light and well-draining, rich soil, thriving in conditions where it can spread out.

Mature Plant Size & Root System: This very fast growing plant will form vines that will creep and climb wherever it can! If allowed to climb, the leaves will get larger as they mature. Can be pruned if necessary. Vigorous root system will burrow deep and/or form aerial roots to cling to surfaces in high humidity environments. Excellent when paired with the BioDude's moss vines or jungle vines!
Temperature Tolerance & Placement in the Terrarium: 60 - 85 degrees Fahrenheit tolerated, but prefers temperatures in the 60 - 75 degree range. Excellent as a sprawling/semi-clumping groundcover, a climbing vine, or placed next to a water feature.
Edible & Side Effects if Ingested: Philodendrons are members of the family Araceae, so they contain low levels of oxalic acid and sharp calcium oxalate crystals known as raphides. Ingestion may cause oral irritation, but philodendrons are not commonly consumed by reptiles or amphibians.
