Best for These Animals: Small frogs and other amphibians, and small reptiles.
Bio Dude Substrates: Terra Firma, Terra Fauna, Terra Flora.
Soil Depth: Any depth.
Lighting: Low to medium, or bright indirect light. Do not place under a heat or basking lamp.
Humidity & Misting: $0% - 100%, prefers higher humidity levels. Does best when allowed to dry out between waterings. Prefers rainwater, reverse-osmosis, or distilled water. Some tap water may contain high amounts of fluoride or other chemicals that can be detrimental to the plant's long-term health.
Mature Plant Size & Root System: Though it doesn't have a true root system, rhizomes will expand outward from the base of the plant to at least as far as the leaf canopy. Mature plants can reach 1 - 2 feet high and wide, but can be lightly pruned.
Temperature Tolerance & Placement in the Terrarium: 60 - 85 degrees Fahrenheit tolerance, prefers temperatures in the 65 - 80 degree range. Does well as a modest - sized focal plant, or can be bunched together.
Edible & Side Effects if Ingested: Non-Toxic if consumed though these are typically used for ornamental not edible purposes. Safe for cats and dogs.
Pot Size & Packaging: A single 4" potted calathea plant is shipped in the pot wrapped in paper.
