Common Name: Adelonema Red Velvet
Scientific Name: Adelonema wallisii (sometimes called Homalomena wallisii)
This rare aroid plant is native to rainforests in northern South America. It can have a striking red vein down the middle of the leaf.

Best for These Animals: Small frogs and other amphibians, along with small reptiles.
Bio Dude Substrates: Terra Flora, Terra Fauna, Terra Firma.
Soil Depth: All soil depths; excellent near water sources or moist areas.
Lighting: Low to medium, or bright indirect light. Do not place under a basking or heat lamp.
Humidity & Misting: 40% - 100%. Prefers higher humidity levels and frequent watering and can be semi-aquatic or partially submerged.
Mature Plant Size & Root System: Typically grows a foot or two high, and about a foot wide, with soft, velvety leaves. Root system will spread outwards, generally shallow, but will grow deeper if the substrate is consistently moist. The roots can also grow in small pools of water, or near water features.
Temperature Tolerance & Placement in the Terrarium: Prefers temperatures between 60 - 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Does best near wet areas or water features. It may get 2 - 3 feet tall, but can be pruned.
Edible & Side Effects if Ingested: Homalomena are members of the family Araceae, so they contain low levels of oxalic acid and sharp calcium oxalate crystals known as raphides. Ingestion is not recommended and may cause oral irritation. However, these plants are not typically consumed by reptiles or amphibians.
