4" Pot Stromanthe Triostar

Common name: Stromanthe Triostar, Stromanthe Tricolor, Tricolor Ginger

Scientific Name: Stromanthe sanguinea

This beauty is native to the Brazillian rainforest. They are known for having colorful leaves, often featuring pink, white, and green (hence, the name, trio, representing the three colors) that are really quite impressive and eye-catching. This plant thrives when given extra humidity, is relatively low maintenance, and non-toxic.

Best for These Animals: Small and medium-sized frogs and other amphibians, as well as small and medium-sized reptiles.

Bio Dude Substrates: Terra Firma, Terra Fauna, Terra Flora.

Soil Depth: Moderate to deep.

Lighting: Low to medium, or bright indirect light. Do not place under a heat or basking lamp.

Humidity & Misting: 50% - 100%, with higher humidity levels preferred. Does best when allowed to dry out between waterings. 

Mature Plant Size & Root System:  Mature plants can reach several feet high and wide, but can be lightly pruned.  It emerges from a thick rhizome, but usually the rhizome isn't a problem in terrariums.

Temperature Tolerance & Placement in the Terrarium: 60 - 85 degrees Fahrenheit tolerance, prefers temperatures in the 65 - 80 degree range. Does well as a modest - sized focal plant, or can be bunched together.  If allowed to grow to maturity, it also works well as a background or corner placement.

Edible & Side Effects if Ingested: Non-toxic if consumed, though these are typically used for ornamental, not edible, purposes. Safe for cats and dogs.
