Scientific Name: Aglaonema commutatum 'Geely Red'

This brightly colored aglaonema adds a splash of color to any tropical terrarium!  It can grow up to three feet tall with a deep root system, but can be selectively pruned back. It can also be placed near or in water features, making it ideal for tropical frogs!

Best for These Animals:

• Small and medium sized reptiles and amphibians from tropical and temperate climate zones, especially frogs.

Bio Dude Substrates:

• The Bio Dude's Terra Flora (for tropical or rainforest setups)

• The Bio Dude's Terra Fauna (for slightly drier but still humid forest environments)

• The Bio Dude's Terra Firma (for temperate terrestrial environments with only occasional humidity spikes), so long as it receives periodic deep waterings.

Soil Depth:

• Moderate to deep soil, with proper drainage. Can also be placed near or in water features.

Lighting:

• Low to medium indirect light (or low-level full-spectrum LED/UVB terrarium lighting); can tolerate high indirect light in certain circumstances.

• Avoid placing directly under intense heat lamps — leaves can scorch easily.

Humidity & Misting:

• Prefers moderate to high humidity (45% – 100%), with higher humidity levels suggested for optimal growth.  It can tolerate less than 40% in certain circumstances where it still receives regular waterings of the root system.
  

• Ensure good air circulation to prevent mold.

Temperature Tolerance & Placement in the Terrarium:

• Ideal range: 70–80°F (21.1–27°C), but can take between 60 and 85 degrees.

• Avoid prolonged exposure below 60°F (15°C).

• Best used as a background (tall) planting, underplanting next to larger/taller trees, or as a corner placement.
  

Edible & Side Effects if Ingested:

• Aglaonemas are members of the family Araceae so they contain low levels of oxalic acid and sharp calcium oxalate crystals known as raphides.

• Ingestion is not recommended and may cause oral irritation, though animals don't typically ingest them.
