Welcome to The Bio Dude!
Few tarantulas command a room like Lasiodora parahybana. The Brazilian Salmon Pink Birdeater is one of the largest tarantulas in the world, typically reaching leg spans of 8–10 inches, with exceptional specimens pushing 11 inches. Native to the humid Atlantic Forest regions of northeastern Brazil, this species is a titan of the hobby — and one of the most sought-after New World giants for good reason.
The name says it all: dense, bristling setae in warm salmon-pink tones wash across the legs and abdomen, contrasting against a rich dark carapace. Under good lighting, the coloration is genuinely stunning — the kind of spider that stops visitors in their tracks. Despite its imposing size, L. parahybana is a relatively fast-growing, hardy species that eats aggressively and settles in well, making it an excellent centerpiece specimen for intermediate keepers ready to step up to a true giant.
