Welcome to The Bio Dude!
*These plants require solid aeration but high humidity spikes throughout the day. Over watering and stagnant air will quickly kill this plant.*
Rex Begonia is available in a few forms. If you have a color choice let us know and we will do our best to accommodate!
Common Name: Rex Begonia
Scientific Name: Begonia rex cv.
-Care Recommendations By The Dude-
Best for These Animals: Small frogs and other ampbians, along with some small reptiles, from tropical and temperate climates.
Bio Dude Substrates: TerraFlora, TerraFauna
Soil Depth: Shallow to moderate with proper drainage. Can be mounted in high humidity conditions.
Lighting: Low to medium indirect light. Don not palce directly under a heat or basking lamp.
Humidity & Misting: 50%-100%, with higher levels suggested for optimal growth.
Mature Plant Size & Root System: These mound-forming plants can get large and bushy with age, with succulent somewhat-fragile leaves. Beautiful when grown properly! Their very thin, fibrous root systems are shallow, but allow for maximum water absorption with adequate humidity. Some rex begonias can be tuberous, forming a succulent rhizome that creeps along the substrate.
Temperature Tolerance & Placement in the Terrarium: Too high temperatures/low humidity may cause leaves to brown. Best used as an underplanting (if maintained low) or as a corner placement. Can be mounted on wood or backgrounds in high humidity conditions.
Edible & Side Effects if Ingested: Non-toxic if consumed, though these are typically used for ornamental, not edible, purposes.
Pot Size & Packaging: A single 4" potted begonia plant is shipped in the pot, wrapped in paper.
