3" Pot Pilea Friendship

Product Description

The plant pictured is not necessarily the plant you will receive, but will be same size and shape. Plants are shipped in nursery pots and may vary slightly in pot size.

Common Name: Friendship Plant, Friendship Pilea, Pilea Friendship

Scientific Name: Pilea involucrata

This pilea develops dense, bushy growth with deeply textured green and bronze foliage.  Its dense, low-growing habit also makes it useful for filling open areas around hardscape while providing additional natural cover for smaller inhabitants.  It can be trimmed or pinched back for denser, fuller coverage.

-Care Recommendations By The Dude-

Best for These Animals:

  • Small reptiles and amphibians that prefer humid environments, such as dart frogs, tree frogs, small geckos, and anoles.

  • Excellent for invertebrate and bioactive setups where dense, low-growing foliage is desired.

  • Not ideal for large or burrowing reptiles that may crush its delicate stems and foliage.

Bio Dude Substrates:

Soil Depth:

  • Minimum 2–3 inches to allow proper root establishment.

  • Thrives in shallow, well-draining bioactive substrate that retains consistent moisture without becoming waterlogged.

Lighting:

  • Moderate to bright indirect light (or low-level full-spectrum LED/UVB terrarium lighting).

  • Avoid placing directly beneath intense heat or basking lamps, as the delicate foliage can scorch or dry out.

Humidity & Misting:

  • Prefers high humidity of approximately 60–90%.

  • Keep the substrate consistently moist, but not saturated.

  • Regular misting can help maintain lush growth.

  • Ensure adequate air circulation to help prevent mold and excessive moisture buildup.

Temperature Tolerance & Placement in the Terrarium:

  • Ideal range: 68–80°F (20–27°C).

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to temperatures below 55–60°F.

  • Best placed in the lower to middle areas of the terrarium where its compact, spreading growth can provide natural ground cover around cork, rocks, and other hardscape.

Edible & Side Effects if Ingested:

  • Considered non-toxic to common reptiles, amphibians, and most household pets.

  • While not intended to be used as a food source, accidental ingestion is generally considered low risk. As with any ornamental terrarium plant, excessive consumption should be discouraged.

Pot Size & Packaging: A single 3" potted pilea plant is shipped in the pot, wrapped in paper.
