Common Name: Maidenhair Fern
Scientific Name: Adiantum raddianum
-Care Recommendations by The Dude-
Best for These Animals: Tropical and semi-tropical/temperate light weight frogs and lizards.
Bio Dude Substrates: TerraFlora, TerraFauna, TerraFirma
Soil Depth: All soil depths with proper drainage.
Lighting: Low to medium. Placement under a heating or basking light may cause leaves to burn.
Humidity & Misting: 40%-100% suggested.
Mature Plant Size & Root System: These stunning ferns have delicate, fan-shaped fronds that grow on wiry stems, and spread horizontal rather than growing taller with maturity. The fronds themselves naturally repel water, letting moisture roll off and down into the surrounding soil to be absorbed through the roots. Though usually slow-growing, mature plants can be 1-2 feet high and wide. It has a shallow fibrous root system that can extend as far as the fronds, but can also grow in between cracks and crags on rocks and branches.
Temperature Tolerance & Placement in the Terrarium: Too high temperatures/low humidity may cause leaves to brown. It can be used as a front (low) groundcover (though may get up to 2 feet tall without pruning), underplanting, or mounted (only in high humidity conditions).
Edible & Side Effects if Ingested: Non-Toxic if consumed, though these are typically used for ornamental, not edible, purposes
Pot Size & Packaging: A single 4" potted Maidenhair Fern is shipped wrapped in packing paper.
