Common Name: Florida Ruffle Fern
Scientific Name: Nephrolepis exaltata
-Care Recommendations by The Dude-
Best for These Animals: Tropical and semi-tropical/temperate frogs and lizards, small tropical and semi-tropical/temperate light weight snakes.
Bio Dude Substrates: TerraFlora, TerraFauna, TerraFirma
Soil Depth: All soil depths with proper drainage.
Lighting: Low to medium. Placement under a heating or basking light may cause leaves to burn.
Humidity & Misting: 40%-100% suggested.
Mature Plant Size & Root System: A variety of the Boston ferns, these easy-to-grow and hardy plants have “ruffled” fronds that can grow up to 6 inches wide and reach several feet tall. Though the root system can be shallow, it can also grow throughout the terrarium substrate if not pruned back.
Temperature Tolerance & Placement in the Terrarium: Too high temperatures/low humidity may cause leaves to brown. Though it can be placed anywhere in a terrarium, it can get several feet in diameter and height, and may overtake smaller terrarium setups. Though it can be pruned, larger setups are preferable.
Edible & Side Effects if Ingested: Non-Toxic if consumed, though these are typically used for ornamental, not edible, purposes.
Pot Size & Packaging: A single 4" potted Florida Ruffle Fern is shipped wrapped in newspaper.
