Welcome to The Bio Dude!
*The plant pictured is not necessarily the plant you will receive, but will be same size and shape.*
Common Name: Begonia Iron Cross
Scientific Name: Begonia masoniana-Care Recommendations By The Dude-
Best for These Animals: Small reptiles and amphibians.
Bio Dude Substrates: Terra Flora, Terra Fauna, Terra Firma.
Soil Depth: All soil depths, but prefers soil to dry out between waterings.
Lighting: Low to medium, or bright indirect light. Do not place under a heat or basking lamp.
Humidity & Misting: 40 - 100%, prefers higher humidity levels, but also does best when it dries out between waterings.
Mature Plant Size & Root System: Can reach up to 1 - 2 feet tall and wide, with leaves of 8 inches, though it can be pruned. Though not a true root system, it has rhizomes that spread outwards as far as the leaves (rhizomes will continue to spread even if leaves are pruned back).
Temperature Tolerance & Placement in the Terrarium: Can take temperatures between 60 - 80 degrees F, but prefers 65 - 75 degrees. Delicate leaves can break easily in areas of heavy handling.
Edible & Side Effects if Ingested: Mildly toxic to humans if ingested. Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested (especially the rhizomes/root system). Since retiles and amphibians do not generally ingest it, toxicity is not an issue for them.
Pot Size & Packaging: A single 3" potted Iron Cross Begonia is shipped wrapped in newspaper.
